On the 39th day of December, 2020...
On the 37th day of December 2020, I watched racism, and white privilege take over my television.
On the 38th day of December 2020, I processed my anxiety, sadness, anger, and disbelief with my therapist.
On the 39th day of December 2020, I decide what to write as my vacation comes close to its end. I had big ideas days ago but gave into my inner sloth and embraced books, animal snuggles, and quiet.
On this day of David Robert Jones’ birth, let’s talk about some 2020 highlights:
Spine surgery changed my life.
The new office continues to inspire me and feel full of magic.
The Weeknd’s album is still on heavy rotation, and “Blinding Lights” is often turned up loud for mini spur-of-the-moment dance parties.
Dave and I did not kill each other. In fact, our marriage feels stronger than before.
According to the booking system, we did 902 treatments on 150 different patients.
The word of the year was “abundance”, but I found myself embracing and yelling the word “pivot” like Ross from Friends way more.
“Abundance” was still a perfect word to describe 2020.
I broke a toe and still finished the 21-Day yoga challenge at Hot Yoga Revolution.
I read 64 books. Some of my favorites were The Women of Brewster Place, Still Alice, Gods of Jade and Shadow, The Radium Girls, All the Ugly and Wonderful Things, The Beastie Boys Book, Beach Read, Writers & Lovers, Becoming, Midnight at the Blackbird Café, everything by Meg Gardiner, Red, White, & Royal Blue. And, of course, my absolute favorite of the year was Untamed by Glennon Doyle.
Yin and Pin’s came back in miniature size at the office, and they have been beautiful.
The feeling of gratitude has been overwhelming.
I lost some friends and made some excellent new ones.
We brought reiki with Quincey into the office, and Meg has made it run like a well-oiled machine.
I watched people I respected and looked up to lose their minds to conspiracy theories and Orange Cheeto nonsense.
And all of this happened while a global pandemic raged out of control.
In actuality, I am happy it is 2021, and I feel hopeful for this year.
