As we enter the second wave of coronavirus, let’s revisit the updated office protocols:
- Properly worn masks (this mean covering both your nose and mouth) will be worn at all times.
- Please arrive at your appointment time so we can ensure that patients do not overlap or have to wait.
- Please take your shoes off when you walk in and leave them on the rug by the door.
- We are only using disposable table paper and pillowcases on the tables. Sheets will be provided as needed.
- Each room is thoroughly disinfected after each visit.
- HEPA UV filters will be on in each room to ensure the air is being cleaned.
- If you have a fever, weird GI symptoms, loss of taste/smell, signs of a respiratory infection, or believe you have been exposed to COVID, please let us know, and your appointment will be rescheduled without penalty.
- If you have recently traveled to any of the states/territories that are on the quarantine travel list, please let us know and your appointment will be rescheduled without penalty.
- Please use the waitlist option if you do not see your preferred appointment time and I will do my best to get you booked.
My responsibility is to keep us all safe when we are together in my office.
I hope that you take it as seriously as I do.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. Meg and I are happy to help.
SERVICES & FEES
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the insertion of hair-thin, sterile, one-time use needles at specific points on the body to manipulate the flow of energy. This energy or "qi" (chee) as it is commonly called flows through the meridians of the body. When this energy becomes blocked, pain and disease can result. By inserting acupuncture needles along the meridians, blockages are cleared and the normal flow of qi throughout the body is encouraged.
In Western terms, acupuncture stimulates the body's natural pain-killing chemicals, endorphins. It also increases the production of adenosine, a painkiller. These help improve circulation, decrease inflammation and provide pain relief. Acupuncture also regulates serotonin which positively affects mood!
Cupping
Cupping is the application of cups (made from glass or plastic) which create a vacuum by removing the oxygen either through the quick insertion of fire (glass) or with a pump (plastic). This suction allows the skin and superficial muscle layers to be drawn into the cup. They are either used stationary or by sliding them to cover a greater area. This vacuum opens the pores, stimulates the flow of blood and qi, pulls toxins from the body and reduces pain and inflammation throughout the body. Afterwards, you will look like you were hugged by an octopus! These circular marks will disappear within a few days of your treatment.
Decrease muscle activity which results in pain reduction
Help with muscle relaxation by improving microcirculation, promoting cell repair and angiogenesis in tissues
Promote healing process via increased local tissue metabolism
Activate the lymphatic system to drain excess fluids and toxins
Induce comfort and relaxation on a systemic level
Good for musculoskeletal pain: Chronic lower back pain, neck pain and fibromyalgia
Good for digestive problems: Bloating, gastric reflux and constipation conditions
Good for improving recovery: Cough, asthma and common cold
Gua Sha
gua (to rub or to scrape)
sha (the distinctive type of redness and skin discoloration created during and after treatment)
This is a healing technique sometimes called "coining" or "scraping". A smooth edged instrument (I prefer a Chinese soup spoon) is rubbed across a lubricated skin surface where tightness, an injury or imbalance is found. When done effectively, sha (redness, discoloration) is produced. This creates a positive response in the body which reduces heat and inflammation, releasing pain and loosening the muscles. This redness will dissipate in a few days.
Commonly used to treat: colds and flu, fever, headache, indigestion, dizziness, injury, joint pain, fibromyalgia, to relax tight muscles, fatigue and liver inflammation in hepatitis.
