Since the ribbon cutting

What have I been doing since the grand opening?

I do not think the previous six weeks had sunk in until the morning after the ribbon cutting.

Who knew that moving and setting up an office in four days, then working non-stop, planning a large grand opening with the mayor, and then peopling would be so exhausting? The result was zombie Katie sitting on the couch all day, snuggling animals, watching The Morning Show (yes, all ten episodes), barely moving, and then going to bed early so I could sleep for ten straight hours.

The next day, while on my five-day self-imposed vacation where I promised I would not work on anything office related, I decided that August would be dedicated to more relaxing pursuits. So, what have I been doing?

Reading all the books

The Blood of Emmett Till, The Sun Down Motel, Writers & Lovers, Beach Read, Love Warrior, American Predator: The Hunt for the Most Meticulous Serial Killer of the 21st Century, Mexican Gothic, and the Beastie Boys Book (please listen to the audiobook if you are a fan of the Beastie Boys.) There is still a week left to the month, I’m aiming for a couple more books to add to this list. Also, all of these are great and I highly recommend them.

Listening to all the music

My current heavy rotation: Beastie Boys (duh), Blaqk Audio, Alkaline Trio, old Red Hot Chili Peppers, No Use for a Name, Pretty Hate Machine, Jawbreaker, Thin Lizzy, Tom Petty, Bowie, Chromeo, Bayside, Blondie, Butch Walker, The Lawrence Arms, JamisonParker, Motion City Soundtrack, NOFX, Blondie, and all the curated lists that Spotify makes me. During the summer, the hubs and I usually see a lot of live music. I am in withdrawal.

Binge-watching

The Umbrella Academy, The Crown, Marcella, Glow, The Morning Show, Defending Jacob, Ozark, John Oliver, The Lost Boys, Birds of Prey, the new Perry Mason, Lovecraft Country, JoJo Rabbit, Stuffed (a documentary about taxidermy).

I’ve also been working on my leg tattoo, exploring the back roads of Hunterdon County, doing some yoga, walking on my treadmill, learning hypnosis, dancing around the office and refinishing some furniture for my house. And the office has been busier than ever! Here’s hoping the momentum carries me through the rest of 2020.

What have you been up to?
